Political party leaders have described the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of the Inqilab Manch and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, as part of a conspiracy to foil the July coup. They said that political parties are united in their stance to thwart all attempts to foil the coup.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizens Party (NCP) made such a commitment at a meeting held at the state guest house Jamuna on Saturday (December 13) under the leadership of Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.
BNP standing committee members Salahuddin Ahmed and Hafizuddin Ahmed, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, NCP convener Nahid Islam and southern region chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, Inqilab Manch member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber and legal advisor Asif Nazrul participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, the chief advisor said that the attack on Osman Hadi was part of a pre-planned and deep conspiracy, with a large force working behind it.
He said, "The intention of the conspirators is to prevent the election from happening. This attack is very symbolic. They want to show their strength, to disrupt all the election arrangements. These must be dealt with unitedly."
