The National Board of Revenue (NBR) headquarters remains under siege. Officials and employees, including leaders of the protesting NBR Reform Unity Council, are not being allowed to enter the office. At the moment, no one is able to enter or exit the NBR.

Law enforcement officials have closed the main gate of the NBR since 11 a.m., although some officials were able to enter on Saturday (June 28) morning. The NBR is largely in a state of siege as all the gates of the head office in Agargaon are closed.

NBR Reform Unity Council President Additional Commissioner Hasan Muhammad Tarek Rikabder and Secretary General Sehela Siddika, along with leaders at all levels, are standing on the road in front of the gate. They say that officials and employees at all levels have taken a position in front of the gate as the council leaders were prevented from entering the NBR premises. No kind of discussion will be fruitful without the removal of the current NBR chairman Abdur Rahman Khan. Today, officials and employees are coming from other offices in the country including Dhaka. Our peaceful program will continue.

On June 26, the gates of the NBR head office were closed and officials and employees were prevented from entering.

Earlier yesterday, despite a request from the Office of the Financial Advisor to withdraw the complete shutdown and March to NBR program, the NBR Reform Unity Council announced that it would continue the movement.

In a press release on Friday, the Oikya Parishad said that the Oikya Parishad was not invited to the discussion with the Financial Advisor. No representative of the Oikya Parishad was present there. As a result, the shutdown and March to NBR program will continue tomorrow, Saturday. A press release was issued by the Office of the Financial Advisor on June 27, which has come to the attention of the NBR Reform Oikya Parishad. No representative of the NBR Reform Oikya Parishad was present at the meeting held at the Office of the Financial Advisor on June 26 as the NBR Reform Oikya Parishad was not invited. The continuous complete shutdown in all offices of the Tax, Customs and VAT Department announced by the NBR Reform Oikya Parishad will continue as usual from June 28. In addition, a peaceful 'March to NBR' program will be observed from all offices of the Tax, Customs and VAT Department across the country towards the NBR. However, international passenger services will remain outside the scope of this complete shutdown.

The NBR Reform Unity Council is ready to hold discussions with the Finance Advisor at any time to present its demands on revenue reform and the removal of the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue in order to resolve the situation arising in the interest of the country and revenue. They sought the gracious intervention of the Chief Advisor to resolve the problems arising on NBR reform in the larger interest of the state in the emerging situation.

NBR officials and employees have been holding a sit-in and pen-break program since June 23, after holding a press conference on June 21. The government issued an ordinance on May 12 to divide the NBR into two. In opposition to this, officials of the Customs, VAT, and Income Tax departments under the NBR held a sit-in and pen-break movement until May 26.

In a press release on the night of May 25, the Finance Ministry said that the NBR was not abolished, but rather that the institution would be elevated to the status of an 'independent and specialized department.' As a result, the NBR withdrew its pen-break program on May 26. However, the NBR Reform Unity Council announced the removal of the NBR chairman and the non-cooperation of the chairman.
