French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that attempts to change the government in Iran through military intervention will lead to anarchy.
At the same time, he warned that any such attempt could spiral out of control, US media outlet CNN reported on Wednesday (June 18).
The media outlet says that President Emmanuel Macron has warned against regime change in Iran through military means. According to him, trying to change the regime in Iran through military intervention could lead to the situation spiraling out of control.
Speaking to reporters at the G-7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, on Tuesday, Macron said, "In my opinion, the biggest mistake at this moment would be to try to change the regime in Iran by military means. Because it would create chaos throughout the region."
President Macron's clash with US President Donald Trump arose over a comment he made a day earlier. Macron said Trump left the meeting prematurely because he wanted to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
However, Trump later denied this claim and said he was not discussing a ceasefire.
Macron added, "Our duty is to start negotiations as soon as possible so that a structural solution can be found on the nuclear and ballistic missile issues."
He said, “For the past ten years, France has consistently followed this path—finding solutions through negotiations.”
