French President Emmanuel Macron has claimed that US President Donald Trump has offered a ceasefire proposal to Israel and Iran. He also said that if the US were able to bring about a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, it would be very good and France would support it.
The G7 summit, an alliance of the world's industrialized countries, has begun in the Canadian city of Kananaskis, Alberta. President Donald Trump, as the head of state and government of the United States, one of the alliance's member states, was scheduled to attend the summit, and President Trump went to the summit. However, he returned to Washington without finishing the summit due to the Iran-Israel conflict.
Speaking to reporters after Trump left the conference, Macron said, "He (Donald Trump) has made a proposal to both sides (Iran and Israel) regarding a ceasefire. A proposal where both sides can certainly discuss and exchange views, can bring about a ceasefire and open the door to broader negotiations. Now we will see what the reaction of Iran and Israel is to his proposal."
"However, we hope that this US proposal will be successful and, if it is, France will support it."
"Because I believe that it is necessary to stop the attacks on the energy, administrative, and cultural facilities of both countries, in addition to providing security to the civilian population of Iran and Israel, as soon as possible. This is urgent and you cannot support any reckless actions. Those who think that bombing other countries is necessary for the security of their own country - they are thinking very wrongly."
The Israeli air force began its attacks on Iran at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, June 13, and is still ongoing. At least 244 people have been killed in the Israeli attacks in Iran so far.
Iran has launched a counterattack on Israel in response to the surprise attack, which has killed 24 people and injured more than 500 in Israel over the past four days.
