Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda has passed away (Inna lillahi... rajiun). He died at his Gulshan residence on Saturday morning.
Shamsul Huda's brother-in-law Ashfaq Quaderi confirmed the information. He said that ATM Shamsul Huda died around 9 am. Later, he was taken to the hospital. There, the doctor declared him dead.
He said, the body is at United Hospital. His daughter lives in the United States. The funeral will be held when he returns home. Shamsul Huda was 83 years old. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
ATM Shamsul Huda served as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) from February 5, 2007 to February 5, 2012. The 2008 national parliamentary elections were held under his leadership.
He joined the Pakistan Civil Service in 1966. After the independence of Bangladesh, he was included in the Bangladesh Civil Service. He served in various important positions in the administration for a long time. He retired from government service in 2000.
During his career, he served as Subdivision Administrator (SDO) in Bagerhat, Secretary to the Ministry of Water Resources and Finance, and Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Unnayan Bank.
